I am an Artist, not a machine.
I am a self taught multidisciplinary artist, a talent my Mother saw and encouraged from a very young age. Just like my parents before me, who immigrated from Europe to America, I moved to Australia in 2012 from the States, where I fell in love instantly with the coastline of the Mornington Peninsula.
I worked for many years as a manufacturing technician until I made the full time switch to painting in 2010. My art has evolved over the years from the surroundings which I live my life. With a strong focus on the abstract, I have added a coastal vibe, and figurative style to my collection of works.
With camera in hand, my coastal abstract paintings are inspired by my photographic passion of capturing the raw beauty Mother Nature creates over time, rusted metals, peeling paint, anything weathered, inspires a style where I aim to create a colourful, vibrant painting that has a distinct distressed and weathered look, taking the viewer on an adventure in texture, hints of mixed media, and a horizon made with genuine music sheets. The expressionist layers of colour in quick, strong palette strokes create a sense of blurred motion, reminiscent to the rolling waves or sand patterns on the beach. The hidden gems of texture are inspired by the netting on a pier, or off the side of a fishing boat which I come across on my many adventures along the peninsula's coast line, and marinas. You may ask why the numbers, the numbers you see in sequence are a homage to my vast manufacturing background, combined with a selection of random numbers I come across that caught my eye, on a beach box, a boat out on the water, to anything and everything along my day. The music sheets bring me back to my childhood with my Mother, who loved playing the piano, to what we all love most about the beach 'the beautiful sound of the waves' ...life is my inspiration. Each piece is unique from the next, resulting in a body of work evoking one’s passion for distressed and weathered surfaces, and love for colour, found along the coastline.
As much as I love colour, I also love the power of neutral shades and hues, inspired by my European heritage, to the coastal lifestyle I now live in. I share this passion through my neutral abstract paintings. These works are created using acrylic paint, medium, and occasionally hints of mixed media, creating works of energy, spontaneity, and emotion.
As you browse through my collection of work, you will also see that I have started to create figurative works on paper. These fabulous drawings started out as a great avenue for me to keep my drawing skill active, and to enjoy a fabulous resource of soft hues to recreate into my coastal works; to now becoming a great passion of mine, another avenue so to speak in sharing my love for colour, typography, and minimalism. Often mistaken for being coloured paper, airbrushed or digital prints, my figurative works are in fact done all by hand in soft pastels capturing the human form with elegance, simplicity, and strength. I am very excited to see how these figurative works evolve in time.
My body of work is intended to bring a positive mood to its surrounding space, creating an atmosphere of energy, relaxation, and escape.
